BODY & BRAIN

Brain & Body classes, based on Professor Len Kravitz’s research, suggests that training both the mind and body can help improve cognitive function and reduce the risk of mental degeneration.

Exercise increases cognitive activity in people of all ages, so participating in physical activity can also help to keep the brain healthy. Muscular fitness is also linked to more successful brain function. These classes use an evidence-based approach to simultaneously challenge the mind and body.

BALANCE, STRENGTH  & FLEXIBILITY

Maintaining proper balance, strengthening muscles, and fostering flexibility are key for those of all ages. Balance and flexibility can aid in performing everyday functions, reduce the risk of falls, improve range of movement, and minimize muscle soreness. Strength training is important for building and toning muscles, improving overall fitness levels, increasing/maintaining metabolism, and making everyday life tasks easier to perform.

The key to preventing falls is improving balance, strength, and flexibility. Strength training is also critical for maintaining bone density and muscle mass. FIT MOM

These classes will focus on the ‘whole fitness’ needs of mothers. These classes focus on regaining core strength, pelvic floor integrity, and postural alignment, along with increasing women’s awareness of their personal strengths to help them develop resilience and build a network of support among them.

These classes will often incorporate the use of the Pelvicore (training aid created and developed by Pelvic Solutions and Christina Christie Senior Physical Therapist and Women’s Health Specialist).

FIT FEET

Based on the principles presented by Beverly Hosford and Stacey Lei Krauss at IDEA 2018, this class will help support the feet as the foundation of every movement. The alignment of the whole body starts with the base. The class involves self-massage techniques and exercises designed to rebalance and stabilize the feet. Healthy feet improve alignment of the knees and hips to enable healthier movements. Maintaining foot health is especially valuable for older clients.
